For our December meeting we usually treat ourselves to an evening meal. This year twenty-two of us met at the Fayre Green restaurant in Diss, a lovely old timber framed building which had been tastefully decorated for Christmas. With a large open fire, beautifully laid tables, and attentive service, we felt very welcome.
Gill and Barbara had organised everything- they even gave us slips of paper, reminding us of what we had ordered a few weeks before. At the end of the meal they had prepared a raffle with three prizes, wine, kitchen apron and gloves, and biscuits, and we raised £30.00 towards training dogs for the disabled. They both had found and read to us, amusing poems, and had arranged a quiz, which kept us all thinking while we enjoyed our meal.
There was quite a choice, but whatever was brought to the table was expertly presented and very appetising, with a starter of fish, smoked venison or blue cheese. There was turkey, duck, a trio of fish and a vegetarian dish, all with fresh vegetables, followed by lemon pot with raspberry ice cream, Christmas pudding and a chocolate desert that looked fit for the Masterchef programme!
In our usual tradition we took one gift and came home with one gift – the variety is always surprising, cookery books, a chopping board, a torch, an egg poacher, a letter opener, a bag and many more.
Thank you Barbara and Gill for making all the arrangements.
Our AGM will have been held on 24th.January, and our February meeting is on Tuesday 21st. February at Alburgh village hall at 7.30p.m. We have speakers coming to talk to us about the EPIC (European perspective into cancer) programme, in which some of us have been partaking.
A happy new year to all.
